Paula Morelenbaum.

Soundsamples

Grand Dame of Bossa Nova meets the jazz pianist  João Donato, the ‘grand seigneur’ of Brazilian Bossa Nova .Marked by a gossamer lightness, “Agua” documents an encounter between two artists who have influenced the musical development of their homeland in many ways. Paula Morelenbaum comes from an environment closely bound to Antonio Carlos Jobim. In her role as vocalist with his band for many years, she experienced the nucleus of Brazilian Bossa Nova first-hand. For João Donato, his evolution stems more from that of a Jazz pianist living in the USA on the outside looking in; yet still one of the great pathfinders for the musical developments that took place in Brazil. On this album “La Morelenbaum” sings a number of classics from the songbook composed by João Donato, tunes later embellished by prominent lyricists such as Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso. The arrangements are hallmarked by the talents of Jacques Morelenbaum, Leo Gandelmann, Beto Villares, and of course João Donato himself.
